Outfit Of The Day (Floral & Faux)

First things first–I have been featured! The awesome ladies over at Kendra Scott squeezed a picture of me in between some pretty fantastic fashion bloggers last week on their blog. What a nice surprise!  Love.
Now on to the clothes. Leather is having a supa-star moment in the world of fashion right now; take one quick look in almost any retail store and you will immediately be bombarded with the stuff.
There are pants made of leather! Skirts made of leather!  Leather t-shirts!  Leather bras!  Leather made of leather!  Leather made of pleather! It’s leather pleather weather!
I will be honest here, I must be honest here: leather typically evokes heebie-jeebie-jeeper-creeper thoughts inside my head resembling something like a hot and sweaty Sturgis Rally circa 1993. Leather also takes me back to that one time, back in 1997 when I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Chloe working a Teenage Mutant Ninja Job at Macy’s Marshall Field’s Dayton’s, that I argued with a lady for hours over a rumpled-and-stained leather mini-skirt that, according to the equally rumpled-and-stained and darn near illegible receipt she kept jabbing and waving in my face, she had purchased exactly three years prior and was apparently dying to return RIGHT THAT VERY INSTANT for a whopping $11.03.
Ew.
But that was 14 years ago! A lot has changed since then, and this new leather isn’t anything like that old (gross) leather–oh no, no, no, no, noooo.
This new leather is cooler. This new leather is easier to wear. And this new leather reminds us that if one good thing has happened because of the darn recession, it’s that retailers have tightened up their return policies and you can no longer return your 9-year old cat to confused teenagers working at the grocery store.  (At least not without a receipt, eh?)
There is simply something a little fun about mixing leather and leather-like pieces into a wardrobe. Forget pairing it with chains, studs, and a bad attitude too–I love pairing it with girly and feminine pieces.  Think ruffles, florals, lace, simple pumps, and a sneak tickle attack from Husband:

Flash on, flash off–it’s a super cloudy day.

I absolutely adore this look on you. Leather pants are a little too edgy for me, or so I thought. Now that I've seen them paired with such a girly top, I can't wait to try out this look myself. Thank you so much for sharing and being such an inspiration. I have been reading your blog for two years now and always get excited when there's a new post. You are one of the reasons I started a blog of my own. xoxo

    Love your trousers.

You look fabulous, hun. I love the blouse. Swooning over the feminine details. And of course the juxtaposition of the leather pants, makes the outfit that more interesting.

Hope you're having a great day. Muah!

OMG get a room you two! I kid, I kid. Love the outfit. I love how the delicate, tiered top softens the edginess of the pants.

i also have unsavory memories of leather of yore. however, your pleather pants look so chic i am tempted to grab a pair and try them out. sadly austin is so humid i fear a sweaty sticky situation much like what you described above. hmmm…

    happy friday chloe!

  • Lisa – respect the shoes

Oh lady, I wish I could pull off leather like you do! I'm afraid I'd end up resembling a remake of that episode of Friends when Ross tries leather pants and ends up in his date's bathroom with baby powder all over the place because he's sweating/chafing and then not being able to pull his pants back on or take them off. Yeah, me.

  • Petite Adventures

Love this look – the pants are divine!

I just picked up a pair of faux-leather leggings of my own at Gap on major sale! And I agree, pairing them with girly tops are the way to go!

  • Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews)

Ahhh you guys are so cute :) Reminds me of me and my husband LOL! he's always picking me up!

I looove this outfit! Ok, I guess I'll take your word for it that leather pants (real or faux) are comfortable – I'll give them another try LOL! I have that same top in blue!

I prefer to pair leather with chains and studs, but I think a sweet attitude is better than a bad one. And you look great :)

However, I try to avoid leather, being vegetarian and all. It's very frustrating!

  • Mary Ann

I saw a fab vintage leather pencil skirt in a thrift store when I was in los angeles earlier this year and I'm so irritated I didn't buy it! ::sigh:: However, I did find a fab suede vintage jacket a few weeks ago. Workin' the leather in!

  • The Little Dust Princess

Lovee the pics. You are super adorable. : ) I saw those same faux leather pants on the UO site, but wasn't too sure about the 29" inseam. How tall are you?
