Currently In The (Make-Up) Bag

While I am definitely not a make-up maestro or anything of the sort,  I am still a product junkie and if a product says “NEW!”, I most certainly will try it. Or want very badly to try it. It is like I have a “new!” magnet in my brain that just draws me to those items, you guys; at least that’s what I tell Husband whenever I suddenly go barreling towards a Sephora or Ulta with my head down and arm out like a 300-lb linebacker with ants in her tight little football jegging pants. (Like that sports reference, Husband? Just for you, just for you.)
It has been awhile since I have updated my make-up list here, and with the passing of the holidays and Sephora’s Friends & Family sale I have added a few new products to my stockpile. So without further ado–here’s what’s currently in my bag:

1. Josie Maran Argan Oil: I initially wrote about this stuff back in November, after Sephora’s F&F sale.  I’m happy to say that I’m still loving it–it soaks right in and gives my dry, parched Accutane’d-and-Coloradan-skin a much needed boost of moisture.  It also doesn’t break my sensitive skin out, and a little bit goes a very long way.  It’s a keeper.
2. Giorgio Armani Face Fabric: this foundation gets pretty great reviews on makeupalley, and when I first bought it I could not figure out why. The texture is just like Smashbox’s Photofinish Primer–soft and slippery, which is great for primers, but not so much for an actual foundation.  But it wasn’t until I paired this with Guerlain’s Meteorites primer that I began to like, dare I say–love it. It’s a great one for dry skin, but oily-skinned gals should steer clear!
3. Guerlain ‘Meteorites Cruel Gardenia’ Pressed Powder: it’s just too pretty NOT to like, hm?
4. Nars Blush in ‘Madly’: I use Nars pretty extensively, and this pretty peachy-pinky-bronze blusher is my current fave. It’s great for giving a healthy glow with just a hint of being sunkissed–in other words, it is definitely not too orangey.  Love it!
5. Guerlain ‘L’Or’ Radiance Concentrate with Pure Gold Makeup Base: this primer is “24-karat-gold-infused”, making it almost too pretty to use. It gives skin a little bit of a glow while smoothing away lines and wrinkles and helps my foundation to go on easier. I like it, but not as much as the Meteorites’ Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer.
6. Guerlain ‘Meteorites’ Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer: this primer is pretty much insane. All too often I have tried a ‘luminzer’ and ended up looking like a drunk disco ball, but not the case with this stuff–it really does give a glow from “within”.  It does go on tight, though–so if you have extremely dry or sensitive skin you might want to skip it.  I’ve been using the same bottle for 3 months  and am just now running out–meaning a little bit goes a long way (and helps make its steep price tag a bit better, too).

7. Lorac Neutralizer I have fair skin that reddens easily; throw in Lupus (and facial rashes!) and sometimes there isn’t enough foundation in the world to cover it.  This neutralizer is a lifesaver- it has a very slight green tint to it, which helps neutralize redness! I’ve used it for over 5 years now, and have it stockpiled lest I ever run out.

8. Laura Geller Candlelight Face & Body Glow: another great luminizer, no drunk disco balls here.

9. Diorshow Lash Primer: I have always been skeptical of lash primers (a tragic, sad-clown experience with L’oreal five years ago scarred me) but after reading 23042384 reviews online saying how great this stuff is, I decided to give this primer a try. It doesn’t disappoint–it lengthens and gives lashes a little bit of volume, no spider-effect in sight.

10. Almay Liquid Eyeliner it’s cheap and gets the job done–I’ve used this stuff for almost 10 years!
11. Giorgio Armani Eyeshadow Maestro Quad in Floral: I grabbed this pretty little palette a few months back during a promotion, and it’s instantly become one of my favorites. The colors are pretty, easy to blend, and wear really well!  It’s great for traveling as well, since it takes up hardly any space in my make-up bag.
12. Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperliner: Tarina Tarantino might be better known for her jewelry collection, but her newly launched make-up collection is worth checking out as well!  My twin sister insisted that I try this one–the pencils go on really easily and soft, but set in a few seconds into a waterproof, super long-lasting eye liner. I currently use these in ‘deepest black’ and ‘locket book’.
13. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Belle du Jour:  I will admit that I was extremely hesitant to try this due to the “matte” monicker; I assumed that it would go on dryly and be a nightmare for chapped winter lips.  I was pleasantly surprised–I’m not sure how or why, but it goes on smoothly and softly without drying lips out. Belle Du Jour is a pretty, kitten-ish nude.
14. Nars Sheer Lipstick in Belle Du Jour:  a lipstick version of the matte lip pencil, mmmhm.
15. Nars Sheer Lipstick in Barbarella:  this is a pretty, pinky coral perfect for spring!
16. Christian Dior Rouge Lipcolor in Blazing Red: this is a super bold reddish-orange (see it on me here!).
17. Essie Luxeffects Nail Polish in A Shine Of The Times: this nail polish is a little hard to find at the moment, and there’s a great reason why–it’s amazing!  Essie describes this color as a “scintillating opalescent aura”, and it has flecks of shimmer that change from green to orange to pink, depending on what color you wear under it.  Love!
18. Chanel Le Vernis in June:  a sweet, candy melon hue.
19. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Wallis: I love Butter London’s nail lacquers, but the medium olive (with gold shimmer!) color of Wallis might be my hands-down favorite.

20. Alterna Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner: I do a lot of damage to my hair between bleaching, blow drying, and flat ironing….but I also have thin hair. Most moisturizing shampoos and conditioners weigh thin hair down, and so I was happy to discover that this duo does not. And it smells great, too!
21. Lorac Tantalizer: this bronzer gives a rich brown hue to skin with an ever-so-slight hint of sparkle.  It’s great for special occasions, but be careful – it’s not a self-tanner and comes off easily with water.  In other words: steer clear of water balloon fights when wearing this stuff!  I know it’ll be difficult, but you’ve been warned.

22. Lush Flying Fox Showergel: nothing smells better than jasmine. Nothing!
23. It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask: a great hair mask for calming damaged hair–I use this weekly.

24. Borghese Restorative Hydrating Mud for Face and Body: I received a sample of this  in last month’s Birchbox, and it’s one of the few products I’ve actually bought. It noticeably plumps dry skin up, leaving it soft and smooth.
25. Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads: I have sensitive skin, and so I am always on the lookout for an exfoliator that won’t cause break outs. I’ve used these now for almost a year, and they slough off dry skin without being irritating. Love!
26. Peter Thoma Roth Mega-Rich Anti Aging Cream: A great, heavy-duty night cream.
27. Clairol Shimmerlights Shampoo: Where has this stuff been all of my life? This cheap, purple-tinted shampoo instantly zaps brassiness from blondes. It really works!  Just be careful–if you use it too often or on patches of extremely dry hair, you might  notice a bit of a purple tinge to your locks.  ;)
Let’s hear it–what is one new beauty/bath/make-up product that you’ve tried recently and loved?  Share in the comments, please!

    Welcome to the Cult!

    We smell pretty!

  • La Professionnelle

I have not yet tried Schwarzkopf's Osis Dust-It Powder but if it is now officially on my must try list—or must smell list. :) -As for the SachaJuan, it also has a distinct smell but not like anything that comes out of humans or is moldy, lol. Just like a hairspray smell :)

  • Tara

My sister-in-law introduced me to Benefit's eyeshadow primer, "Stay Don't Stray."  She said that she knew it must be good when she saw drag queens using it for their makeup!  She was right— I swear by it.

Also, pro-tip for the Flying Fox:  use it only as shower gel, never as bubble bath.  For some reason one of the oils in it has some sort of chemical reaction when it's in the bath that makes a FUNKY smell.

  • Chloe

Wallis is a really neat color, I haven't found another olive green nail polish like it! I still need to try Chanel's April & May–I've totally become a nail polish junkie as of late. *grabby hands*

  • Chloe

Hahahaha!  It's funny, because I have always been aware of Lush and its cult following, but for whatever reason didn't actually venture inside a Lush store until this past December for Christmas gifts. Definitely adding the Lovely Jubblies to my list! Thanks Rebecca!

  • Chloe

The purple shampoo is a miracle product, isn't it? I really can't believe that I have been a (dyed) blonde for about 75% of my life but never heard of it until this past year! Like you, I had a little bit of a hair emergency when I went from red to blonde last year (and of course, ended up orange) and couldn't believe how well it worked. It smells like the closet my grandma keeps her body lotions & perfumes in, but I can't live without it!

  • Chloe

Ooh, I am ALWAYS looking for a texturizer/volumizer! Have you tried Schwarzkopf's Osis Dust-It Powder? I completely forgot to put it on this list, but I've been using it lately and love the texture it gives…but hate the smell. It smells like moldy diapers! The smell only lingers for a second, but it still makes me gag.

The SachaJuan Volume Powder looks similar–definitely adding it to my list!

  • Chloe

Darnit! I had a Clarisonic brush once-upon-a-time-last-year, but gave it away to a friend because I couldn't get past the 'initial breakout phase' with it. I know so many people use them and love them–and with my dry skin, lord and savior of freaky perfect skin Cindy Crawford knows I need a good exfoliator. I'll hafta get brave and try it again sometime. *commitment issues*

  • Chloe

Ooh, another brand that I've seen but haven't yet tried–thanks for the Perricone rec, Kate! Adding these to my list, too. <3

  • Chloe

Ooh, I haven't tried the PTR Ultra-Lite Cellular Repair yet–that's great to know!  The Mega-Rich is really, really thick (I always feel like I'm slathering on Crisco!) and while I love it…yeah.  It's definitely not suitable for daytime. Adding it to my list!

I wish I could get away with tinted moisturizers, you lucky ducks that can.  Old scarring from teenage acne (bleccch) and Lupus rashes make them too tricky for me, but I have a good friend that uses them often and always looks flawless. So jealous. :(

  • Chloe

Great to know about Dermalogica–I am aware of the brand, but have never tried it! And it looks like the line gets great reviews at MakeupAlley, too–I'll definitely at it to my list to try.

I can't believe I forgot fragrances on my list! Lately I have been going both old school and new school with Burberry London for the day, and Tom Ford's Violet Blonde for evenings out.  Loooove it.

  • Chloe

Ooh, I have those same darn vertical lines in between my eyes–I call them the 'mean' wrinkles. Hate them. >:(

  • Annabelle

I really need to lay my hands on Wallis — I keep seeing it and it looks so sophisticated!  I am currently loving Jemma Kidd's radiance creme and Chanel's April polish — and my skincare standbys from NIA24 and SkinMedica.

  • Rebecca

I hit up their year end sale after Christmas,
and stock up for months to come–love me some LUSHy goodness.

    Speaking of LUSH,
their "Lovely Jubblies" cream is amazeballs–
    fantastic scent,
    softening, smoothing,
and it really does make boobs and butts look tighter and brighter for a few hours.

7 out of 27. That's pretty good! I really love using the purple shampoo. I got highlights done right before I left town and I wanted to cry to see that my "light browns" were a horrid carrot-copper color. Fortunately, the day before I left town I went to my local Sally's and they showed me this product. I washed it twice that night and I could swear I saw a difference the next morning but still wore it up in a bun. As the days progressed, I noticed my hair was getting more even toned and by the time I got home, my hair was in the nice warm colors. phew!

    I love it!

  • La Professionnelle

I actually have been waiting until the first of next month to start a new monthly blog posting series about the things I'm coveting BUT with this timely post and question posed here I must emphatically express my new found love for a hair product: SachaJuan Volume Powder!! It makes my hair look and feel thicker without a greasy look. My hair stays volumized even throughout the next day!!

  • admin

I do a lot of Nars makeup products and have been finding myself using lots of Kiehl's face products recently, including their nighttime oil blend.  I think the thing I can't live without anymore is my Clarisonic brush.  God, I love that little machine.  Takes away flakes, makes my pores seem smaller, I break out less…everything seems to soak in better at night after I use it, too.

  • Kate Pazoles

Just picked up some Perricone products during my last trip to Sephora and am loving the No foundation foundation – it's light and a little goes a long way.  it basically gives you a glow and then disappears on your skin!  I am also seeing a noticeable difference from Perricone's pore minimizer – i put it directly onto my skin using my fingers, not a cotton ball – and it has DEFINITELY made my pores smaller and my skin more even.  The line is pricey, but worth it!

also a long time fan of Philosophy's Purity cleanser – doesn't over dry but removes makeup easily.

  • Jennifer Rowe

I like the Peter Thomas Roth Ultra-Lite Anti-Aging Cellular Repair. It's like the daytime version of the mega-rich. Not quite as thick but just as moisturizing. I'm also a HUGE fan of Stila's tinted moisturizers. When you don't want a ton of coverage (summer) it gives you the SPF factor, moisturizer and a bit of color to even things out.

  • Mary Ann

Awesome, thank you thank you! Just ordered it! ;-)

  • Chloe

Ooh, check out neiman marcus online, Mary Ann! They have it in stock online: + free shipping on any order with code "SHIPNM". Almost as good as getting it from the store!

  • Molly Acorn

Hi Chloe, I love these beauty reviews.  Any fragrances in your bag as well?  As for  products, I'm a loyal follower of anything by Dermalogica.  Their skincare products are the best, particularly the active moist and daily microfoliant.  I'm also loving Essie Haute As Hello and Chanel Mimosa nail colors.  In haircare, I love Paul Brown Hawaii Hapuna Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner.  In makeup, I’m enjoying Bobbi Brown’s Simmer Brick Compact – Rose Gold for highlight.

  • nkilian2135

I love reading your picks! I've been on the lookout for argan oil for my skin, and Josie Maran's seems the most accessable for me. I also really want to try Peter Thomas Roth products. I'm 27, and although I don't have wrinkles around my eyes, I do notice a lot of bagginess. Oh, and I'm getting those pesky frown lines between my eyes. Not a look I want to have 27/7. I'm hoping a good night cream will help. Thanks, Chloe :)

  • Mary Ann

I went to buy Chanel June the other day (at a local department) store and they were out…boo! I'll have to try somewhere else.
