Outfit Of The Yesterday: Zara Coral Coat + The BCBGMAXAZRIA Odette Dress

♫: A Million  Years – Alexander

I first fell in love with the BCBGMAXAZRIA Odette dress (that I am wearing below) when I saw it last September during NYFW; its cool geometric print (in shades of yellow, turquoise, navy, cream, and coral, no less) sucked me right in.

In person the dress doesn’t disappoint; it’s made out of a thick and stretchy crepe, which makes it really comfy to wear. I sized up one size for some added comfort and versatility (it seems like whenever I’m wearing a dress, we’re usually doing a bunch of eating and, you know, breathing is important and sometimes I get tired of not being able to do so), so the shoulder and upper arm area is a little big and could probably use some tailoring if I ever get around to it, but aside from that I’m in love.

And I want to wear it everywhere! All the time! And never take it off!

So my next hot lunch date with the elliptical is probably about to get much more exciting, good stuff:

that is a really cool dress! Also I love how you did your hair for the look :)

One of my favorite outfits on you! Soooo buying that coat ASAP, been searching for something like it for a while! Quick question…what size are you wearing in this/how does it run? I’m about the same frame as you and can’t decide between the small or XS. Thanks! xxo

I bought the coat and it arrived today in the mail. I absolutely love it! It’s my first Zara purchase. I’m normally a straight Anthropologie girl. I might be hooked. I also bought Rebecca Minkoff gold shoes after clicking on them from you blog! http://www.oneshoedaily.blogspot.com

I love the coat AND dress, fantastic! I would never have thought to pair those together!

  • I can’t decide which I love more, the coat or the dress. Both are gorgeous!

  • Claire

That whole outfit is perfect! The dress is absolutely stunning- I’m in love with the print on it! The color of the coat is so cool and unexpected.

    • Thanks Claire! I had been looking for a coral-hued coat *forever* (years!) and the Zara one fit the bill nicely. Glad you like it, too!

Your dress, your coat, your hair – I love it all!!

That coat! That coat is amazing! The dress is equally beautiful on you, but the coat is the star for me! You look beautiful Chloe. And by the way, I need a ton of hot dates with my elliptical too. My arms have always been, well, little chubby sausages as I refer to them. I always have to size up in coats!

    • Thanks so much Noelle! And ohhh, tell me about it–as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to definitely carry more bodyfat in my upper arms. I keep thinking that it’ll just go away on its because I used to have such scrawny arms–but hot doggity damn, getting older is frustrating. *angry face*

I think that’s just about the prettiest coat I’ve ever seen. The color, the shape, the details… it’s something I can imagine Jackie O. wearing! :) Also, yes. Breathing is indeed important ;)

    • Thanks so much, Caroline! Zara definitely hit a home run with the coat, I think. Glad you like it, too.

I love that dress. I always love all your outfits. Lately I have become obsessed with getting some gingham shirts in several colors like those at J Crew. I am wondering though if I really like them or if I am just buying into a trend. I don’t think I have ever seen you wear one. What is your take on this gingham trend, and how do you avoid jumping on a trend and determining if you are wearing it because it is a trend or because you really like it? I think I would save a lot of money if I could figure out what I really like.

    • Great questions! I think we’re all guilty of jumping on certain trends, even if it’s not what we might *truly* like. Experimentation is one of the best things about fashion, I think, and so it can be good to go outside of your comfort zone every once-in-awhile to mix things up. Gingham hasn’t really grown on me, mostly because anything remotely plaid-like gives me bad flashbacks to the grungy 90’s (and I was middle-school-aged and SO awkward), but I have seen several bloggers rock them and look great. I personally like them best when they’re paired with something unexpected (a boyfriend blazer, for example, or under a v-neck sweater with pearls). And since they are versatile and so easy to layer with other things (and never seem to really go out of style), I think they can be a fairly good investment for one’s wardrobe.

I do usually splurge on classic pieces that I know I will wear a lot (nicely cut coats, fitted blazers, purses, handbags, jewelry) and I scrimp more on trendy pieces that won’t get as much use. I’d say if you want to try a trend, but aren’t sure if it’s something you’ll really love, go as cheap as you can! And save your money so you can splurge on things you know you’ll wear a lot.

And one more tip- I’ve recently started pinning all of the clothes & accessories that I buy to a secret/private board on pinterest. If I’m ever feeling hesitant over purchasing something, I can just pull that pin board up, give it a quick look, and see how many items in my closet the item in question pairs up with. If it matches lots of things in my closet, then great–I’ll make the investment. But if it matches 10 things or less, I pass. I’m really visual and need to *see* things, and so it’s been a great way to stop overspending on trends (and curb impulse buys), especially if I’m shopping in a store or mall. I just pull Pinterest up on my phone and voila–I can instantly see most of what is in my closet, even if I’m not at home. Hope I’ve helped!

This dress is stunning on you – I can see why you went crazy for it! Also was just eyeing this coat the other day & debating if I should get it…think you may have just convinced me :)

Your hair always looks so fabulous!! So voluminous, and it frames your face so well!

  • Love the neon accents and print on the dress. The color of that coat is so beautiful.

  • The coat looks way better on you than the Zara model! But than again, you can rock anything. In love with that dress, beautiful pattern.
