Outfit Of The Yesterday: The Rebecca Taylor Strapless Ruffle Top & Chan Luu Drop Collar Necklace (+ An Evening with Cary Elwes)

Happy beginning of May, you guys! I am still here! Barely. I need to find more time to blog and post outfits, and hopefully I will have some extra time on my hands soon.

I was originally planning on wearing the outfit that I am wearing below to The Princess Bride: An Evening with Cary Elwes back on April 20th, but in typical Colorado-like fashion it decided that night to suddenly drop 40 degrees and rain. Which is fine, just fine, that’s what it does in Colorado in the spring. If you are lucky enough to live in the 303, you know that you must always have a back-up plan. And an umbrella! And maybe some snow boots. And a good moisturizer, a love for sitting for hours in traffic on a perfectly nice spring day, and a smug superiority-complex about craft beer. That’s it.

I had bought tickets to the Princess Bride event for my husband back in February as a Valentine’s Day gift (we bonded over our love of The Princess Bride on one of our first dates) and it was lots of fun. You know–once we got past the aspect that we essentially dropped $50 apiece to see a movie that we have all already seen a good 5000 times, in a really old theater with incredibly uncomfortable wooden seats and questionable sound issues. Hehhh.

But it was (in all seriousness) really neat watching the film in the Paramount Theatre with Denver’s biggest Princess Bride fans yelling the best lines along with the movie. Cary Elwes isn’t too shabby either, and he spent some time after the movie talking about his favorite moments from the film, did an excellent Bill Clinton impression, and answered some audience questions (“WILL YOU MARRY ME??”), too.

We hit up Russell’s Smokehouse in Larimer Square for dinner beforehand with some friends too, which is maybe one of my favorite BBQ joints in all of Denver. It’s all delicious, but the Loaded Chips + Smoked Mac & Cheese is the bomb-dot0nom. If you are local and reading this and like good BBQ, it’s worth checking out–and its location (a cozy little basement in Larimer Square) can’t be beat if you’re already downtown and looking for a tasty little place to dine. They have excellent cocktails, too! Go go go.

Rebecca Taylor Strapless Ruffle Top

On to the outfit. I picked up the little ruffly top that I am wearing below from Rebecca Taylor during a recent sale, and even though Rebecca Taylor has recently become one of my favorite designers, I was still a little hesitant to order this top because an overabundance of ruffles can sometimes be a bit much–especially on petite-sized people.

But it was true love as soon as I tried it on. Not only is the color of the top gorgeous (kind of a dusty burnt rose coral, I’d say), but extreme ruffles are definitely a trend at the moment, and it’s a trend I have always really loved. I have always been a bit of a sucker for ruffly, romantic, and ultra-feminine styles, and after a few years of minimalistic athleisure being the dominating trend, I am a little glad to see ruffles make a return.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I am definitely wearing my favorite pair of gym joggers (and covered in two chihuahuas) as I type this–but sometimes I think that it’s fun to wear fussy clothing. And the best part about this top is that it isn’t even that fussy. It’s comfortable and easy to wear, with a built-in bra and nonslip rubber binding to help the top grip to skin and not slide down. It also pairs extremely well and looks gorgeous with high-waisted shorts and skirts, too. It fits true to size, although bustier girls might want to consider sizing up one size.

Chan Luu Drop Collar Necklace

I grabbed the Chan Luu necklace that I am wearing recently as well, and although you can’t see it so well in my photo, the labradorite stones are similar in color to the teal charm on my handbag. It’s one of those necklaces that looks great with t-shirts, and dresses, and everything in between. Love.

And last but not least–I’m also in the process of slowly going back blonde for summer, which means my hair is currently all sorts of shades of blonde and red (and orange) (and blue and ugh, green). As it turns out, going from dark auburn to light blonde isn’t exactly easy, especially since I am trying to be as gentle on my hair as possible. Trying. Trying really hard.

My hairstylist has been a trooper in the process–more about that in a bit!
