Outfit Of The Yesterday: Black + Brown + Peach + White (& A Review of LOFT’s Corded Dobby Striped Trench)

♫:  Where Are Your People? – We Have Band

Fall is in the air! Okay, not really, but spend 2 seconds online and you’ll see that lots of retailers are beginning to get their fall inventory up and ready to buy. It’s a little hard not to be tempted (all while feeling totally sick to the stomach–is it really already August?!), and the Corded Dobby Stripe Trench from LOFT finally sucked me in. I had been on the hunt for a cute-and-patterned trench after seeing the super fab Chiara Feraggni of The Blonde Salad rock one during spring fashion week:

And the LOFT trench satisfies that little craving pretty darn well. It comes in all sizes (regular, petite, tall) and is made out of their corded dobby fabric. If you’re unfamiliar, corded dobby is almost like a thick canvas; unlike canvas, however, it has a real softness and flexibility to it, making it easy and pretty comfortable to wear.

I am wearing it in a petite XXS below, and it fits well in all places that are usually tough for petite statures–chest, shoulders, and sleeve length. It nips in nicely at the waist and the back has a teensy bit of a flare to give it some girliness, too. I think this will go down as one of my favorite purchases this year from LOFT (and if you want it for yourself, you can take 25% off with code “psw25fp”):

On to an outfit! I am going back to basics today with a mix of black and white. Sheer, chiffon blouses have definitely become a staple for me in hot weather–they cover things up nicely while still being cool and comfortable to wear. Love:

Top:  ASOS, old (similar here) (another option at ASOS) (similar at Piperlime) (similar at F21) (last worn here)

Belt: LOFT (buy it here + take 25% off with code “psw25fp”)

Skirt:  J Crew, old (similar at LOFT) (similar at F21) (another option at F21, thanks Jenny!) (a longer option at ASOS, on sale)(last worn here)

Tigers Eye Ring: Banana Republic, old (similar at Banana Republic) (similar for $35) (last worn here)

Shoes: Alexander Wang Eliza Wedges, old (similar at Endless) (similar at DSW) (similar by Jimmy Choo

Bag: Andrea Brueckner City Tierney Bag, old (similar by Pour La Victoire) (similar by Rebecca Minkoff)  (a splurge by Max Mara) (last worn here)

Nailpolish: Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in June (buy it here)

I just got the Facebook notification that this trench was available on their website and of course you’re already one step ahead of the crowd. I love a patterned jacket! I see you wear a lot of the sheer, chiffon blouses. Do you ever wear Equipment blouses? A lot of bloggers live and die by them and I guess I fell into the hype but I’m making room for fall and clearing out my closet trying to get rid of multiples that havent been worn so I’m selling one NWT, sometimes we have to edit right?…sigh Anywho I can’t wait to see your new closet I’m sure you’ll never have to edit for more room :) http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Authentic-Berry-Equipment-Blouse/87276025

I’ve been drooling over this coat ever since I saw it on a decal in their window at my store! So excited to see it on someone around the same size- will definitely be going with the petite! It looks 10x cuter on you than on the model! Loving your outfits so much<3!

Love that belt Chloe! And that trench coat is so cute, but I think I’ll hang onto summer clothes for just a tad longer!

  • Love the accessorizing of that outfit — that belt is just perfect!

I am totally not ready for summer to be over but I have to that my clothes shopping urges are kicking up again all the same.

  • Oh girl, I am so ready for Fall and this post is making me even want Summer to be over sooner. I was at H&M on Saturday and I so wanted to take home this gorgeous trench coat but it was 90 degrees so I couldn’t justify the purchase. But obviously now that I see your lovely trench, I want to go back to H&M!

  • I love the trench, and this black and white outfit is so classy. It looks great Chloe!!

  • I tried that trench on in regular in store cause my store had no petite, I am definitely ordering it now in petite!

    • It’s seriously a great, great little trench. Can’t say enough good things about it! (And can’t wait to see how you style it, Tara, too!)

I need that trench now Chloe! It looks so adorable! What a great staple to have. I also love your simple outfit. It’s very elegant and luxurious looking.

    • Thanks so much, girlie! I’m glad you liked the outfit–it was a nice, simpler change of pace. ❤

  • gorgeous coat.

  • VERY cute trench! seriously tempted to go pick one up! =) gah

    • Thanks Jenn! The bad part is…it’s still a good month before I can officially start wearing it in Colorado, since it’s still too hot. But it’ll look cute hanging in the closet for a bit, at least? *bright side* :P

  • Very cute, as always! Love the suade sandals… looks like it goes with any outfit! :) And tiger’s eye ring.. I remember I was eyeing on topaz color cocktail ring a year ago or so. The tear drop one from Lucky Brand looks really cool… Banana Republic used to sell something very similar to that but it was out by the time I checked the store.. :(

  • Ooo, I love the trench Chloe – looks awesome! What is your height…I cannot remember. I usually cannot wear petite sized tops because of my long torso (the armpits and waist are always cut too high) – but I feel like LOFT/AT run big…. Hmm…if i bought this, I’d probably go for the regular XXS or XS. Hmmm….

    • Hiya Mary Ann! I’m 5’2″ (5’3″ on a good day, heh). I usually have a problem with waists being too low on me in regular sizes, so the petite size of this trench definitely has a higher-sitting waist. Do you have longer arms, or shorter arms? If you have long arms, I’d definitely go with the regular size–I have short little t-rex arms to match my short legs, and the sleeves on this trench are really short. I do think LOFT does run big in coats–I though I’d squeeze into an XS, so I was surprised when the XXS fit as well as it did. If you have any other questions or want me to measure something, let me know! ❤

      • Lol at T-rex arms. I’m 5’3″ to 5’4″ish…somewhere around there. But I think we have very different body proportions. I’m all hips and ass, ha! Long thin torso and arms, short wide hips and legs. I’d probably be better NOT doing petite in this coat. I’m gonna hold for now, as I need to save up some $, but I’m going to reconsider this coat when school starts (and I go back to work more regularly)! ;-)

Oh.My.Oprah….Did you notice that Oprah “pinned” you on Pinterest? Oh yeah, love the trench too!

    • I DIDN’T notice, so thank you! And I am oddly, dorkily so excited; I might have even squealed when I read your comment, LOL. Thanks so much for the head’s up, DeeAnna! ❤
