Outfit Of The Yesterday: Roses + Moto Jackets + Pearls

♫: You’ll Find A Way (Switch & Sinden Remix) – Santigold

A prettily embellished skirt. Oh how I absolutely love them, but oh how difficult they are to wear (I am pretty sure there are still feathers from my Haute Hippie skirt floating around in Vegas from a romp earlier last year)–and the skirt that I am wearing below is no exception.

I first wrote about this skirt over here as being a fantastic “inspired by” of a gorgeous Balmain suit inspired by a  Fabergé egg that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor–and it really is just about as pretty in person as it looks online. Heavily-embellished and jewel-encrusted items are set to be a big trend for this coming fall, since fashion rarely stomps its (5-inch) heels in any sort of comfort or reality.

But like anything made of a polyester chiffon and topped with hand-sewn beading, the skirt is incredibly delicate, and I am not going to lie:  3 pearls fell off as I was shooting these pictures. I will also be honest and say that I am surprised more didn’t fall off as I wore it, and more haven’t fallen off since, but still–if you don’t like suffering through your own needle pokes & pricks, or worrying if you’re leaving outfit-crumbs in your wake a la Hanzel & Gretzel–then this skirt is not for you. (But if you do think this skirt is for you–it runs small, I sized up one size in my usual Zara bottom size, and there are rows of pearls running down each side which might make pear/hourglass shapes look extra-hippy.) (And if you do want the look, but without the added headache, check out this Balmain-inspired manicure over at Miss Lady Fingers–beautiful!)

On to things that don’t fall apart! I had originally purchased the floral collar necklace that I’m wearing below because I thought it would match my old J Crew fluffy clutch {real name: flutter floral clutch} pretty darn well, and it does! But even though I loved how that clutch looked with the outfit below I had to settle on my Chloe Marcie crossbody instead, as I needed something bigger to haul all my loot. Have a good weekend, you guys!

I love that you tell us the real deal! Sometimes I see an outfit on a blog and I think to myself, that could not possibly be comfortable, or, this must be at the beginning of the day because that fabric will wrinkle the minute you sit down. But do they mention it? Usually not. I probably wasn’t going to run out and buy this skirt anyway, but thanks for the honest review!

No problem Sarah, thank *you* for the great comment! I do always worry about reporting accurate quality and sizing with the items of clothing that I showcase here, especially if someone really likes something that I am wearing and wants to buy it for themselves. It’s important to be honest, I think–I don’t want to have any disappointed readers tweeting and emailing me in anger. *frets*

i rarely buy anything this embellished because i know once one pearl falls off…i will go insane. even though i know no one else would notice! but it sure does make for some GORGEOUS photos! although i did buy the zara sequin skirt and it has held up surprisingly nice!

I love the skirt. it’s gorgeous but knowing me there would be zero pearls left after wearing it once! I’m always catching everything!

You look stunning in that skirt! I am too much of a bull-in-a-China-shop type to wear something like this, but I can appreciate the loveliness of it on you. Wondering if the beading makes it terribly uncomfortable when sitting?

    • http://www.thechloeconspiracy.com/ The (Chloe) Conspiracy

Thanks! It isn’t the most comfortable when sitting, but it is surprisingly more comfortable than I thought it would be, if that makes any sense. I get more worried about going up and down stairs in it, since it is made out of a *barely* stretchy fabric. But so far. So good–whew.

This is one gorgeous look! I just love every little detail. It all looks perfect from head to toe!

Aaah! I saw this skirt at Zara and fell completely in love, but figured I’d immediately spill coffee all over myself/snag a pearl or a hundred/sit on a dirty subway bench. But it’s GORGEOUS, and I’m glad to see it looks so god on!

Embellished skirts are so cute, but I am a flopper, not a dainty sitter. I think that one would be doomed the moment it entered my apartment.

I’m in the “baby-steps” dept with the embellishments…I’m working my way to sequins, maybe one day pearls. My fear is leaving a trail everywhere I go, but it does look amazing.

I read your warnings but the skirt is so beautiful! I would definitely have one of those moments at the store where I stare and stare and stare at it. Then I try it on 2 times. Haha. I would classify it was my “stand there and look pretty” outfit. You look amazing and styled it perfectly!
